Hey there - anyone driving the new Kia Carens? I'm looking to see if you have a distortion / ripple visible when looking through the windscreen, lower portion, towards the left and right sides?

    Cheers all...

That sounds very much like a low quality spurious windscreen to me, was it replaced at some stage?

Nope (I wish!) - brand new; car's only a week old...!

The best thing to do is check another similar car. It is plausible that the windscreen was damaged while being on a transporter and replaced before it came into your possession.

Yup - trying to pull in as big a sample set as possible!

Bit odd that it'd be on both sides. I'd be driving another one to compare tbh.

    Bad windscreen Id say.
Take it in to Kia and see what they say. If its distorting stuff, they will need to change it for you.

There should be a Kia stamp somewhere on the window, if not it may have been replaced prior to sale, possibly an accident occured on route to delivery, that or it's a defective windscreen from the factory.

Cheers - investigation process is ongoing... Dealers acknowledge there's a ripple / distortion there, but suggest its just the design of the car; their other demo has it too (not that I'm convinced that means it's not an issue!) I know KIA UK have replaced same under warranty, but since our dealers sell the most Carens in Ireland and say they haven't had any complaints, I wanted to see if anyone else had come across it - it's driving my wife crazy (major distraction and an eye strain - neither of us saw anything similar in the other Carens' we test drove)!

It would be piss poor if they damaged a new car prior to delivery and fitted a spurious screen. Surely they would have fitted a genuine one anyway.
My guess is just a poor screen from the factory

Maybe try an example from a different dealer.

Reports from the UK suggest a four week lead time to get new windscreens delivered to Kia dealers...

Sounds like it was meant for Mr. Magoo.

If KIA uk are replacing them under warranty, play hardball until you get it replaced. DO NOT believe the dealer when they say they have had no complaints, they have brass necks and will continue to spout out this line to every new customer who complains.
We once had a new vw passat in the family. Piece fell off the fuel line - Dealer was 'stunned'. They had never seen such an issue arise before yet they were so busy fitting replacements that the parts were in short supply. Cars were all recalled a week later for the same fault given that it was so widespread so they can lie trough their teeth (all of them).

Kia probably don't make windscreens though. What stamp is on it out of interest?
Could be a bad batch of screens but then why would the manufacturer fit them and why would the supplier let them out, they would have had to pass at least three sets of quality controls.

There are a number of standard responses from any business that deals with the public and this is one of them. Another is to blame the ****up in question on a new member of staff. Don't accept either.

It has the genuine Kia stamp - Saint-Gobain brand...
