Small skylights - planning permission?

As part of our renovation, we're putting in a smallish skylight above the upstairs landing to let light into the upper hallway. The skylight would be on the back of the single-pitched roof.

It's a period house with the rear garden facing a street.

Do we require planning permission for this?

In my opinion yes, approach the local council and ask their opinion.

    Is it a protected structure?

    No, it's not listed.

I should also add, for what it's worth, that the skylight will be a Velux Conservation rooflight in-character with the vintage of the house, and many other houses of similar period have rear rooflights.

Well, DCC planning office says these are exempt from planning permission.

May have to apply for a Part 5 exemption cert.
