Buying a new laptop

    Hi,

AS the title suggests, my current pc is dying and I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I really don't know where to begin.
I mainly use it for surfing and storing music movies and stuff on it.
I'll be editing music/pics on it, but won't be gaming..
A HDMI access would be good.
I'm hoping to get Win 7 as opposed to win 8. Also, one without a load of software coming preinstalled would be lovely. Unfortunately my budget is just €450, tops.

    Any ideas?

Hi, amazon has decent prices generally, you can check specifically for Win 7 laptops.
There's a Lenovo on dabs.ie for about 480 too, with an i3-3110 processor.
HDMI should be on most laptops. Good luck.

If you could afford it definitely go for an i5 processor, i find the i3 to be a bit slow at times. And also try get at least 4GB of ram anything smaller is kind of pointless

Thanks for that. I looked at the lenovos with i5 processor but they're a bit beyond my budget.
Would it really make a big difference?

some options here within your budget. Win8 but recent updates make desktop experience very similar to win7

Have a look at the Argos outlet on Ebay. They're all refurbished but that could mean it was an unwanted item also. Got mine with an i5 processor for about €350. Absolutely love it.

EDIT: found the link for it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACER-E1-15-6-500GB-4GB-LAPTOP-/360851822146?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

Had ordered one on dabs.ie and they sent me a piece of s*** notebook worth barely half of the one i ordered. The refund dragged out about 2 weeks also.

    What model did you get?

Just looking at that refurb website prices aren't very good at all, most of them are 1st gen i5's and i3's that are 4 or 5 years old.

So if you convinced yourself that you were getting an i5 for good money unfortunately ....they're not comparable to the laptops of the past few years at all.

For example that refurb linked to on Argos ebay is a proper 3rd gen i5 that is a good performer.

The one's on that Northern Ireland refurb sites are laptops you would pick up for half that price on adverts.ie or Ebay (around €200 for the i5 models).

sorry for piggy backing on this but also looking for a new laptop to replace an old desktop

memory isnt a big priority in terms of capacity as it will just be used for general household and surfing so thinking along lines of ssd for speed of powering on....also want a docking station so i can connect it to an existing external keyboard, mouse and monitor

    thanks
