Holles St is quite proud of its lower c section rate. From personal experience even if you're fully private you may find it difficult to get a consultant to agree to an elective section for nonmedical reasons.

Was just about to say the same! They try everything before doing a section. Supposedly this is why a lot of mount Carmel patients have moved to the coombe (don't know how true that is though!)

In fairness the MC consultants moved to the Coombe so the patients are probably just sticking with them.

It will depend on your reasons but remember most reasons physical or psychological are ones that they will consider .
I presume that you are going private ? It might be worth ringing Holmes St and seeing who is available and then narrowing it down from there .
    Consultants book up fast .

Just heard it from a friend of a friend she said coombe is much easier to get a section. Another girl ended up having a section and first and then was asked if she would like another section (which she choose). I don't have any personal experience of the coombe though.

I know of at least two private consultants who will not agree to do sections unless there's a medical reason, be it for physical or psychological reasons. And even at that they'll hum and haw about it.

I wouldn't bother going to Holles St if you have a preference for a section.

If you have had a previous c section some hospitals would be willing to be more open to one
However a c section is not easy on the body
Ive had 2 emmergency cs and a planned one due this sept.
Tough recovery on 2 with complications not nice.

It depends on what your reason is and how open the consultant is

    Hello all,
the csection is for medical reasons. I was simply asking if someone can let me know the name of a doctor that performed a csection for them and that they would recommend and the reason why or alternatively someone that i should avoid. If anyone can help with that i woulld greatly appreciate. I will be going private and have had previous csections, but not in ireland.
    Many thanks

One for my friends had 3 sections by dr peter mcparland. She said he is a lovely man and went private on all three

If it's for medical reasons then it won't matter which consultant you go to.

Sorry, that's true. Being public I just see whatever consultant is on that day so I don't get that choice but I do understand that some consultants can be not very nice, or not have a nice bedside manner etc.

The OP was asking for a consultant who would do a c section, what I was saying is itey doesn't really matter if it's for medical reasons because they'll do it anyway but if they wanted elective they might have had a problem.

Why don't you contact Holles St, tell them your history and ask them for their advice?

To be honest, all patients will differ - as we see above one patient recommended one consultant and the next post recommended against them. Medical treatment and your relationship with a doctor are very personal issues, and will differ greatly from patient to patient. I've recently had a baby, and was under a wonderful consultant. I cannot say enough good things about him. I have since heard of people who didn't like him at all, and would never go back to him.

So a recommendation from the Holles St receptionist (who may just transfer you through to a few different secretaries of the different consultants to ask your questions) would be just as good as a recommendation from anyone here.

    <snip - removed quoted deleted post>

OP I would agree with the others - you will hear good and bad stories about everybody. If you look on the nmh website you'll find the list of private consultants and their specialist areas. Ring the secretaries of a few you like the look of and ask about availability, clinic days, costs and scanning policies and see what suits you best. Any of the consultants are very experienced and you should have no concerns about a planned section.

And I would recommend mine for bedside manner AND medical reasons, and I have heard others who weren't happy with either!
