    Hey guys

Looking forsome quick info in relation to clutch issues on a 06 Passat 1.9tdi

Last night asI was driving from limerick to Dublin I noticed that the clutch in the carwasn't working. I drove the entire journey in 5th gear so I have no idea atwhat stage the clutch failed but obviously as I approached Newlands cross itbecame very apparent as I couldn’t get the car into gear as I tried to geardown approaching the junction. When I say the clutch failed it was unresponsiveand depressed. I managed to get the car into the hard shoulder turned off theengine and back on again. Luckily the clutch seemed to work again and I wasable to put the car into gear. Drove a couple of hundred metres tried to gearup and the same thing happened, no clutch. This time there was a tiny amount ofresponse from the clutch so I started pumping it and I had and eventually foundenough to get the car into gear and luckily managed to get it home. I’m hopingthis issue sounds more like the a problem with my clutch fluid i.e. the pumpsor the values and not the clutch itself (fingers crossed anyway) but there is abig BUT to the story……I know my flywheel is on the way out, last couple ofweeks the car has been shaking at idle and in the last week I’ve heard aknocking sound coming from the car while at idle.

My question is, could my DMF have failed during the journey and is now causing aproblem with the clutch? Or do you think the clutch issue is unrelated to theDMF?

Sounds like the DMF & clutch is knackered. www.gearbox.ie used these myself around €500 for both on a 1.9tdi they use luks & sachs parts

Bring it to a mechanic, but the 2.0TDI is more expensive than the 1.9 TDI. You wont have much change out of €1k!

It'll be off to a garage over the next few days. How big a job is changing the clutch on one of these?
I know in some cars the engine has to be taken out to replace the clutch

It's a gearbox out job afaik. Clutch and flywheel kit for the 1.9 TDi is about €500 and you are looking at around 4 to 5 hours labour.
