To be honest, if I was to buy a used car from someone that is one garage I would always check out first. Great reputation, helpful and a nice guy too.

He's a user on here and on a lot of other forums and won't do you wrong.

    Hi all

Was gonna go take a look at this car during the week and given my extremely limited knowledge of cars was wondering can anyone advise anything in particular I should be asking and does it seem right price ?

    Thanks!

Usually when Insignia's are advertised as "SPORT" models, they are basic S versions, but that one is actually an SC 160ps with the Plus Pack (the nicest alloys available on the Insignia, and Front Fog lights). Very unusual to see Leather on that model, and the 160ps is also pretty rare, most were 130ps.

Price looks pretty reasonable for low mileage, and it looks in great nick. Personally, I'd prefer a 5dr for the additional flexibility that offers, but the boot is pretty massive on the Saloon, just the opening is a touch small.

Power delivery from the engine isn't great - few flat spots on the power curve, and it's pretty noisy, but once you get used to it, they are failry decent to drive. Tyres can be costly - €200 + a corner for premium brands, and the ride can be a bit harsh off the motorway.

So in general there not a great car,i see loads for sale but they don't hold there value and wasn't there a program recently where they highlighted a wiring fault where some cars went on fire.reviews of them are very bad.

i thought it was hydraulic feed line fault on right hand side under car just behind engine bay and if the program you refer was screened on rte, hosted by Keelin Shanley( my apologies to lady if wrong spelling),wiring fault was ruled out and Opel guaranteed to check it for anyone taking car to main dealer. I haven't heard anyone condemn them anyway, very comfortable is most comments.

there not holding there value, saw one this week for 9000euro a 2011 with 250000klm,and some slight bumper damage.tires for the 160bhp model are 200 euro plus each, and like all big wheels they will follow the lines in the road so it will feel like the car has a mind of its own.google problems with them and see what ppl say.you will look for a while to find a good word about them.i was gonna buy one but when i looked into it more they seem to spend more time broke down than on the road.i like the look of them and the big wheels but the steering and driving position are poor, look up bob flavins review of them on youtube

will do,all cars have their problems and i considered looking at one a while back when looking for car with a comfortable driver seat, getting fed up with toyota tubos as well as seat support:mad:, even though a friend recommended 12 model avensis,
some one on boards recommended Volvo S60 so that is direction im headed next but then im looking for saloon

Not many 2011 cars with 250k km will hold their value in this country. The Insignia like the Mondeo is a sales rep's favourite so they sell in large volumes, rack up big mileage and have poor resale values.

true all cars have there problems but ya dont want to be the one stuck with a car thats eating into your wages, its fine if its a company car but when its your car and its out of your pocket the money comes from to repair it then you will wish ya never bought the car,i have a 2001 corolla and it has 500000klm on it,its never givin an ounce of trouble ,same clutch is in it from the day it left the factory,it has never ever brokin down but i would never buy another, there not made like that anymore,i too need to change the car in the next few months and im up sh.te creek as to what to buy,the volvo mmmmmmmmmm all ford engines,,,,im tied between a vw passat or skoda superb both 2.0 litre.its hard to believe it but there are feck all cars to choose from in this country,vw ford toyota thats it,vw was the biggest selling car last year in ireland and when its time to sell it it holds its value, mmmmmmmmmmm just looked up the s60 wow its actually a nice car,ok i like the s60 now just looking at it lol...feck it go for it get the volvo mite be as good as any of them.

i think it was BAZZ26 and COLM MCM who recommended the S60 and i was looking at 10 Opel Insignia and dealer didn't want Toyota at 100,000 km opel had around 50,000 km and local owner.
at 250,000km most car dealers sell as cars as trade

personally i would prefer Skoda superb to Vw passat barring boot, Skoda is hatchback but id prefer Skoda

me too but its got to be the 2.0 as the 1.6 is hopeless.i have to say the passats are like an ass, everyone has one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,471 ✭✭✭sandydan

2.0 has 6 speed box 1.6 5.electrical in passat is my reason, think skoda are more economical too, if going 12 or newer avensis dsl is good as well , good mpg ,no timing belt change either - probably worth 5mpg
some like hyundai supposed to rank highly ,have 7 year warrranty
if getting secondhand have a look at this first, its posted by GCTEST50 on turbo trouble,so check service record and good luck
