The get out of jail card is "I'm 14" and "I'm stupid". But think of the resources that have to be used to check out her story and establish the facts. Think of their diversion from other work. Think of the precedent established if her excuse works. It's too easy to write her off as a teenage moron. Give her a six month sentence working with victims of crime and violence and their families. Maybe she should have to see real people with real grief like the families of MH370. Maybe it's past time teenagers stopped getting a free pass.

At 14 its doubtful anything will be done besides a stern talking to.

But she is undoubtedly now on the US no-fly list for the rest of her life. Trying explaining that one to a multinational or to the job of a life in the States.
