Looking to invest in a decent pair of new bib shorts for those longer Sunday spins and summer sportifs.
Do suffer from sore arse syndrome on long spins, so looking for a good pair with comfy padding.
    Suggestions?

Get some chamois cream too. It's the friction between the pad and your arse that's causing the irritation. The chamois cream helps in this regard. I don't suffer too bad myself, but if ever I notice it getting 'rough' down there, the cream helps...

Assos chamois cream is excellent for this job.

It never fails to surprise me how stupidly expensive Assos gear is.

Alas they pretty much last forvever - the only times I've had a chance to "replace" their gear is when it's been damaged in (or cut off after!) an accident or I've dropped a size (or two). Needless to say it doesn't stop me stocking up on spares "just in case"

If there was ever proof of "you get what you pay for" it's Assos gear in my opinion! As Beasty says it lasts for ever - I have a 20 year old 851 jacket that's still going strong! Having said that I never pay "retail" for it - keep an eye out and you'll get a decent discount in sales. I've also bought some 2nd hand Assos stuff here on Boards at a very reasonable price!

On the other hand (or cheek ;) ), us ordinary folk get by just fine on the likes of Wiggle's 'DHB' range for much less cash.

Have 2 pairs of Assos bib shorts and I thought I wouldn't need to purchase a pair for a long time again but don't like them at all.1 pair worn 3 times and the other new in box that will never get used. For me Rapha condor is the best I have ever tried.Expensive but worth it

That defo looks nicer than the 2 I have.
I have a few other assos bits but I think Assos are a little overpriced and the sizing can be a little strange in the jerseys I have anyway.Having said that I admit too many people have very little negative things to say. It's probably me but If I'm going to spend big I prefer Rapha .

It's not the friction that's litteraly is a pain in the arse for me (at least not yet) it's just a sore bum from sitting on saddle for 100k+ and on rough roads, which causes my seat bones to get quite sore.
Having never purchased a "good" pair of gel padded bib shorts, I think the time has come, as it seems one needs a little more quality padding now that I've moved up to longer spins.
So before I take a hit on the credit card, I'm interested to know what you guys advise....

I love my castelli stuff but saying that I bought a pair of sportful bodyfit pro tights and they are so comfortable. The chamois is excellent.

I find Santini bib shorts and tights excellent. Good value currently available at Ribble Cycles and Prendas.

Have to recommend santini myself. New club gear is made by them and wore the bibs for the first time for a 200k on Sunday they were more comfortable than other shorts I have on a 100k spin. Barse was absolutely fine afterwards. They have the gel intec pad.

Anyone have a opinion on the dare 2 be bib shorts from euro cycles. Bought a pair last week and was out for 1 50k spin. Seemed ok but can't help to think they will not be good for 100k plus spin. Should I have possibly went for the aultura pro gel shorts which were only €24 extra.

I didnt know there are bibs for >50 and <50 km spins. I was using liquigas team bibs and used them for various distances. After certain amount of cycling it really made no difference how long the spin was.

Any of the well known manufacturers bibshorts will be fine. Sometimes the stitching can leave a mark in very wet conditions.
Santini is my preferred brand but I will always go for their top of the range padding insert. That is what makes the difference regardless of spin distance.

I paid silly money for Assos shorts years ago. They had an actual chamois insert which went hard like cardboard unless it was liberally covered with Assos chamois cream. Never bothered purchasing Assos again.
Used Castelli and Nalini which are both good and Pearl Izumi which I really liked but, for me, Santini tops the lot.

I've just been given a new pair of those Aultura pro gel bib shorts as a prezzy and will be trying them out come Sunday's long spin.

However as I'm now doing regular 100k+ spins and my posterior does suffer on long spins, I've listened to what the boardsies have said and have just invested in a good pair of Santini bib shorts, as per the majority of replies to this post.

Thanks guys for all your excellent advice as usual...
