Went out to Summerhill for my first IVCA race. I was in race 1. A fairly aggressive morning of racing. I think the average speed was 38km. Lots of attacks and wind. The loop itself is great. Looking forward to the Curragh next week.

Rumour has it you were the one leading the chase when Rob Fowl tried to break away ;)

I put in one serious dig to get an escaper on the first or second lap. I was wearing the blue/gold/white Bikeworx long sleeve jersey. I was in great position, well top third, and then the damn elastic snapped on that little pimple of a hill at 73.5km. Ouch.

I got away, then looked back, realised no one else had come with me then said aaahhhh f*ck and kept going for a bit knowing full well I'd no chance of staying away for 40k.......

    Fun though.......

Sure, it might have been your last race so worth the effort.

how does one 'qualify' for the ivca races? Is it be 40, or be 40 at the end of the year? I suspect my first IVCA race will be next year. Can you hold both IVCA and CI licences and race open or ivca rounds?

40 by 31/12/14 qulifies for this year. I have both CI and IVCA licences and would normally race both. With the IVCA get your application in reasonably early as they close racing membership (1 March was the cut-off this year, but they are always liable to change the rules and have been getting concerned about the sheer numbers signing up, so there's no guarantee they will stick to that next year)

You also have to be "endorsed' by one of the senior members to attest that you can ride a bike safely in a bunch.

That should keep the riff raff like yourself out.

I'll be so far out the back that riding in a bunch won't be an issue.

How are the race categories organised?

Hang on - I am expecting to be the "protected" rider next year - all you guys are expected to ride alongside me and provide me with a soft landing if required, but ideally stop me falling off in the first place .....

Currently under development, these spy shots of Beasty's 2015 cycling kit show that Beasty will be a force to be reckoned with in his role as protected rider.

You mean install stabilizers before the start.
