Ambition but no drive

I need advice. I have tons of ambition, but no drive to make it happen. In my field, most people are self employed. Even though I have lots of good ideas, I can't translate it to action and so have been out of work for months now. It's not just in work either, it's in every day tasks. I put everything off and it's causing problems. I want to change, but I don't know how. Please help. How do I change my thought patterns for good to be more motivated?

You need to turn those ideas in to action. And you need to turn every day tasks that you put off into actually doing them.

It can come down to how you approach things, like organising yourself and setting a plan. A good way to motivate yourself is to plan and set out very specific objectives.

You can take that approach with everyday tasks, plan today what you are doing tomorrow for the day, when and how and follow through. The follow through is important, because you can have the intention, but get distracted by something that isn't planned and the rest might slide and you might feel bad that's happened and cause you just to give up.

The end goal is get stuff done, right? You want to complete every day tasks and also complete turning ideas into something more practical, so the best way is take it in small steps so it's not overwhelming or daunting a task, plan it out and then do it.

If you have been out of work for a while it's quite common that people lose their motivation to carry things out, especially when you can see others progressing where you feel you should be and that can lead to putting more pressure on yourself, which can lead to stuff not getting done.

A good way to change is to look at the end result of putting things off... how does it make you feel about yourself, do you feel negative about yourself? Is the end result that time is slipping by and you're not where you want to be? That maybe it has knock on effects in parts of your life? If you can see there are negative end results then you need to acknowledge them and make a strong commitment to yourself in turning them into positives for you in resolving to tackle them head on. Sometimes it requires to be a bit more honest with yourself than you might otherwise be but if you can be honest with yourself in realising there are indeed negative consequences, don't panic or be hard on yourself, just calming start working on it all in small steps. And you'll get there!

Its pretty easy to change you just need the will to do so, I would suggest begin by making a list of the everyday tasks that you have to do, set your alarm for early , treat it as if you were going to work, then simply complete the tasks and tick them off one by one. Stick with that behaviour pattern and you will get more done.

On the work front perhaps it would be a good idea to partner with someone. The hardest thing for anyone self employed is selling themselves, you may find if you partner with someone who can open doors that more work comes your way.
