If he's looking for a cheap scope the only one I could vouch for is a bushnell banner dusk and dawn , great scope but it's a 18 power I think ,lovely and clear and a fine crosshair

Hawke have so good budget scopes the new one are decent. Back to the usual story if how much he is actually willing to spend.

Ziess Duralyt 3 - 12 x 50 reticle 6 fits the bill. Stocked in Midlands and Atlantic Shooting and Fishing as far as I know. Just depends on budget :)

Hawke Endurance 30 is a great one for the money, 3-12x50 and a 30 mm tube. In or around €300 ish. I had one on my 455 hmr for ages and loved it. I only changed it cos I got a sidewinder but it'll be going back on it soon as the sidewinder will be going on my new swift. It's a great one for the money as I said, and I found it much better than the banner (which it replaced) and I'd never go back. Just my 2cents.

It was fine enough for shooting out to 200 yards plus for bunnies and I found the illuminated dot great foe low light. I got mine from John Joyce in Westport,. His number is on the dealers list here on boards.
