Lack of connections on Kildare route

    I live about 2 miles from Adamstown station, and occasionally travel to the South/West by train.

    My 4 most recent train journeys a connection was not possible (almost an hour, or in some cases more, of a wait) along the route between the commuter services and the intercity services. In all cases it has been quicker for me to travel to Heuston and get a Dublin Bus back out again.

    I would have thought with the KRP there was no reason that trains cannot be timed to make connections especially on this route.

    I would have thought that you could get a portlaoise train to either Kildare, Newbridge, Sallins or Portlaoise to connect with all intercity trains?

    He're a perfect example. Will be travelling to Cork on Sunday fortnight, on the train departing Heuston at 13.00. To use Adamstown I have to get a train at 11.41 to Heuston, where I have a 56 minute wait.

    The connections for 6 out of 8 services are the same or worse than the one I listed.

    There are much better connections on weekdays, the Sunday service on the Portlaoise commuter service is what is causing the lack of connections. Would the 25b bus be a better option to get you into Heuston Station for 1pm?

    It is a problem across the CIE group, IMO it is because timetabling which should be a specialist job that looks at the entire network, is often a job done by someone with out any qualification or particular knowledge, and routes are looked at in isolation with employment regulations more to the forefront and trying to squeeze as many journeys as possible within the allowed work time hours.

    I know it is slightly off topic but an example in DB is the complete lack of co-ordination of bus departures on the same corridor, so buses that are often timetabled in such a way that they converge at specific points along the route, so termini that are say 10 minutes apart will have one bus leave at x time and the route up the road will depart at X+10 so that both will converge and then you have maybe 30+ minutes with no service till the same thing happens again.
    The NTA are currently pushing on even headways but are starting completely in the wrong place by looking to slow buses down to maintain headway rather than looking at timetabling.
