For my husband - any ideas from you heating/plumbing experts:
    :)

    Grant Oil COMBI Max Outdoor.

Burner not firing recently for either heating or hot water.
Burner light does NOT come on on the control panel when the system should be "calling" for heat either from heating or hot water. Pump will start circulating ok for heating but burner light stays off.

Sometimes switching all power off to the boiler i.e restarting the whole boiler temporarily solves the problem but recently this solution is working less and less.

I have checked the following and all are fine:
    Burner was recently serviced
    Phototeye is clean
plenty of oil in the tank
System pressure is just above 1bar cold so that's fine
    Electrics and timer look sound
    Circulation Pump is sound

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.:)

Job for your service engineer as you said it's an on going problem when you said turning it on and off use to work, so its not just a case of us telling you to press the reset button.
Pressure gauges can give a false reading and boiler can be tempermantal if pressure is not correct.
But it could be 101 different reasons.

Service eng. should be able to simply find cause.

    Is the burner on lockout?
Have seen both the control board and the things like the hot water store thermister give same issue

But as Scudo said, your really going to need a service technician

I agreed but if its not going into lockout and not firing its sounds like dodgy photo cell or solenoid valve
Reillo burner are starting to give trouble not starting or firing and staying stuck in pre purge

Only if the motor is running. He said pump is running only

Sorry thought oil pump was running on and not firing only
but sounds like job for experts

OP ( Big bag of chips) said turning on and off power sometimes got it going again, which indicates that it's not locking out or over heat thermostat that would phicascly need to be manual reset by pressing the appropate button.

Need an OFTEC engineer to check electrical and mechanical with this appliance

    Thanks for the replies.

Looks like the problem is not the actual burner but the electrics/electronics involved in "calling" for heat.

More ideas welcome of course but will get engineer to have a look.
