Hi I am wondering how much social welfare will I be able to keep if I took up full time employment which pays 21500 per annum.
I'm married with two kids currently on jsa and we recieve rent supplement.
Would we loose all rent supplement if I was offered a job like this? My wife is also unemployed.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

    You will lose rent supplement.

You will get FIS (family income supplement). This is 60% of the difference between your take home pay, and the threshold for families with two kids (about 600).

How long are you on rent supplement? Have you heard of RAS (rental accommodation scheme)?

The loss of rent supplement is the real kick in the stones here, particularly in your case as you would be moving off it onto very low wages.

Nevertheless, being in work is the better option for your long term, it really is. Well done on securing a job.

Note - apply for FIS first, secure that, then have your wife apply for jobseekers. Not in reverse.

Also, you should be able to get fuel allowance and reduced childcare costs due to FIS.

    Look at the RAS also.

Check out hap - housing assistance payment with your local council. You may qualify to keep some rent allowance and continue working. I know losing the rent allowance is the biggest hit. This is now being introduced to bring people back into work and retain some benefits.

So you get 18 months help then its decided your housed and your off the housing list so it's basically the ras scheme by different name ,

From my reading you have to be in receipt of rent allowance for 18 months. It doesn't actually say how long you will receive assistance for. But yes it is and other ras scheme however, for people who want to work it is a stepping stone as a lot of people's rent is 600-800 a month so getting a job and paying this months rent first is difficult. So it will be interesting to see the take up.
