    Hi all,

Had a quick search for good dog walks but nothing really came up. We love taking our dog to as many new places as we can and were just wondering where you guys take your dogs for a good time off lead.

We already use Mount Merrion, Killiney beach and hill and Marley Park and would love any suggestions that will tire our four legged friend out.

    Thanks

    Oh, where to start.....

Was on Achill Island this week. Visited Keel and Keem beaches, and the deserted villages. My two little ones loved it and not too busy either. Belmullet is brilliant for quiet beaches and the beach at Enniscrone is long, wide, sandy and very dog friendly.

Generally, we walk the Ox Mountains and Lough Easkey, which is several k's around and is our limit.

    Tis a beautiful country this.

    TT

I totally agree with your reccommendations but I think the OP is looking for areas in South County Dublin?
I'm aware this is on the outskirts too.

OP have you gone towards Bray? The cliff walk or even up the back of the head - lots of nice hilly walks.

How about the walk out to Poolbeg light house? I haven't been there for a few years but I don't remember there being strict leash laws... may be there are now, but worth looking into?

This. I walk a dog regularly here, and it's doggy heaven! Nobody (except me with the lunatic pup when he gets completely beyond reasonable) has a dog on a lead. 3 miles from Beach Road out through Ringsend Park, and the nature reserve, and along the South Wall (one of my favourite places in Dublin city) to the red lighthouse. And 3 miles back. They get to swim and run and if the tide is out even half way you don't have to go on the road at all. Fab place! (mind the Brent geese though when they're there - can't remember when is the season but there's signs everywhere - it's a sanctuary for them - big no-no to have the dog worrying them if they're that way inclined)

Also, it's not exactly South Dublin - but the War Memorial Park at Islandbridge is also doggy central - and there's a lovely 1-mile walk along the bank of the Liffey to Chapelizod.

Glendalough is doggie heaven for a day out. I regularly travel from Meath to see my friend out there and take them for a walk. They love having a splash about in the lake.
If you are inclined towards driving north of Dublin Laytown Beach is another spot which my pooches just adore. :)

Thread followed cos its always good to find new places to takes the furries for adventures. Even if it is miles away. Might want to book a night away.

Off Lead here are my suggestions… (mostly North Wicklow hope that’s ok)

1.Avondale House (Charles Stewart Parnell’s house) – excellent for off lead, we do the “river walk ends up about 6/7k, with lots of swimming for my dog in between (it’s his fav place), hardly any people, no cars etc., so perfectly safe for crazy doggie running around. Also from March – Sept they have a small coffee shop open where you can get something nice after your walk. http://www.heritageisland.com/attractions/avondale-house-forest-park/

2.Round wood Reservoir – two walks here one 5k, the other one 10k, both excellent http://wicklowcountywalks.com/reservoir.html

3.Sugar Loaf Mountain – gets a bit hard at the top but a great walk / climb, great views at the top!

Really? ive been bringing my dog there for 8.5 years (least 30 times a year) and have NEVER had him on lead... ive met a good few dogs there in my time too and again never on lead.

Maybe at the coffee shop (but surely thats a given) but def not on the river walk etc.

Its on the Coillte outdoors site. Most Coillte forests (if not all) state all dogs on leads, but nobody takes any notice. Dogs on the RB list are also banned under their byelaws. :( I'm glad you get to have good walks with your dogs, and they get to run around off lead, but just wanted to point it out, in case anyone gets stopped. :)

Did Glendalough today and now have one knackered pooch - may have overdone it as he hasn't moved since we got back!
