    Hey folks,
I'm on the way to Zell am See with the van and was thinking it would be great to get a few nice snaps to be able to use on my website of the van at the foot of the glacier and mountains. I've also been thinking before it would be good to invest in a proper camera for the business for similar snaps throughout Europe/Ireland passing various landmarks.

The other option is to find a photographer based there and spend a few hours driving around hoping to get a good snap (plus side of this is they should hopefully know where to get some nice shots) but I'm en-route now and don't really have time to look for one.

Anyway, do you think it would be possible to take some half decent shots with little to no experience, straight out of the box with a lower end DSLR and if so, any suggestions on where I could get a decent one at a decent price in a bricks and mortar shop along the way? I'll be driving through Germany incase there's any reliable chain stores that sell them at a decent price? I had a similar request before and ended up going with a Canon 1100D. My phone is ok for facebook photos and the likes but is pretty bad when it comes to night shots and for permanent imagery on the website I'd want something a lot better.

    Any feedback appreciated :)

Good camera, and will take good shots if you know how to take good shots with it.

If these photos are to be important, get someone who knows what they're doing if you can at all, would be my opinion!

Oh and if it's night shots you're looking for, and you've know experience at all, you're definitely better off with a professional!
Buy the camera then join a camera club when you get back.

If you're going to buy the 1100D in Germany, there's a few "Power City" like stores that I can suggest:

    Media Markt

Canon EOS 1100D Price is €349.

    Medimax

Canon EOS 1100D Price is €349

    Saturn

Canon EOS 1100D Price is €369

Please be prepared to pay with cash in any of these stores.
Credit cards can be regarded as a four letter word in Germany. These stores only accept the local German debit card and cash - Laser, Visa Debit and MasterCard Debit will not work. OT - credit card usage in Germany as you travel through will be hard work.

For their special offers (angebot) they'll have stock. For other cameras like the 600D (which I see for €30 more in Medimax) stock might be a bit more patchy. Media Markt generally has a wider range of items - like the 70-200 f/4 L lens in cabinets.

You'll get multi-lingual instructions, and a 2 pin European mains cord, which you can change easily. There won't be much pushing of equipment insurance :)

If you pass by some of the bigger supermarket chains (www.real.de) then you might have a chance of getting an 1100D kit for a good price. Again, cash only, but it's going to be more miss than hit.

Wow thanks a lot everyone. Getting a photographer would be the ideal situation of course, but I'll be hard pushed finding one by tomorrow I imagine. Actually, I remember something about getting the "good lens" with the 1100D, I forget which is the good one now though.

Is the 600d a better camera for only 30 more?

600D is a better camera alright

It depends on what type of shots you want to get, I'm not sure how much you know about the lenses, the 18-55 is a short lens, but not wide angle, so you wouldn't get much zoom.

A lot of cool shots have post-processing also, so the photographer would take care of that end also.

There's a lot to learn with photography, plenty of different pieces of kit to get different shots and effects also! :)

Thanks again, the 600d for 379 could be good, I tried Google medimax but there doesn't seem to be any close by, I've already passed Munich on the way to Zell am see so probably won't find one in between :(

I see the 1100d is actually only £250 on amazon.co.uk which works out cheaper, the 600d at €389 looks like a great deal from medimax though. I wonder would it be worth getting it while I'm here? Oh and has anyone ever tried buying something for business EX VAT from a store like this? It would be only €326 ex vat I think.

I tried my luck and went into a medimax and got the 600D for 389 :) Seemed like a good deal I guess :) Thanks a lot for the heads up!
