Visa debit or credit card best protection for online?

    IIRC, in Ireland the level of protection is the same for either.

    However, if the option to pay via PayPal is available, use that as you'll gain an extra level of support should anything go wrong.

    I have a dual visa & mastercard, so just pay one government tax/fee.

    BOI tried to force me to take just a mastercard but I insisted on the visa too, I found a few online shops that do not take mastercard.

    There is supposed to be a difference in protection, not sure about online, I know my father specifically uses mastercard for certain purchases and visa for others. I know a guy who broke his glasses and they were somehow insured since he had luckily chosen one card over another.

    I never use paypal on shops I trust as I want the shop to get my money, not paypal.

    I wondered this too. Can you get charge backs etc on debit like you can on credit? I'm still inclined to use my credit card when purchasing online but would like to get rid of it and just use the visa debit for everything.
