Possible carbon monoxide danger stove need advice

    Hi folks,
Basically bit of a situation I think I know the answer to but would like someone with more knowledge to put my mind at ease.
Was away for a couple of weeks, had the cousin staying in the house to mind it and explained the workings of the stove to him.
Anyway first day he lit the stove and left the plastic washing basket on top of it,went upstairs and when he came back down it had melted all over the stove.
He did`nt tell me and removed the stove from the pipe to clean it off the back wall,I came back and thought the stove was not working well as no hot air pushing out the top vents its only just heating the stove itself.
I think the plastic seeped down into the ring on top of the stove and our fear is that the draw is knackered on it and the risk from carbon monoxide may be very real.
I have a CO monitor 3metres away from it,the problem is I had to beg my landlord to let us put in the stove as the previous tenant nearly burnt the house down and he was really reluctant.
We have been so responsible about it this past year and a half that I am so embarrassed this happened and hope to fix it myself without involving him by using a professional.
Thing is money is tight, could someone advise me on the workings or if they think the seal now could be broken in the stove as I am lost right now.
Many thanks and sorry long post
    Mike

Shouldn't cost that much for someone just to look at it. Get a professional opinion, it's the safest way.
If work needs to be done you can tell the landlord then or see if you can afford the fix yourself.
There is every chance your mate did not put the stove back together properly.

To be honest, your mate should be the one forking out. Does your landlord allow you to sublet?
