Hooligan Garda

Looking for some legal advise! Last night the Garda raided my mothers house and literally wrecked the house!

At around 7pm last night the Garda called to the house but there was nobody in, so they smashed the front door in & entered the house! They proceed to search the house upending every room they entered, they threw all my mothers possessions all over her room, clothes, makeup, jewelry, everything, all the draws thrown all over the place. They did this in every room they enter, they also took away some stuff that was in my brothers room, Xbox 1 my mother got him for Xmas and a Guitar. When they left the house they left the front door wide open, anyone could of walked in. When my mother got home last night she thought the house had been broken into a
& actually called the Garda. They rang her back within a few seconds to tell her it was actually them that did it. The guard spoke to my mother on the phone like she was some sort of scumbag & told her that she can make a complaint but nothing will come of it!

My mother is in a state of shock at the moment! She can't believe whats is after happening to her! The front door is wrecked & she can't afford to get a new one in! Me & my bother are going down to the house after work to see what we can do with it.

My mother is totally devastated about whats after happening & she feels powerless about what to do.

Can somebody fill me in about what steps she can take, surly not even the Garda have the right to just walk into somebody's house & trash the place & just leave without even notifying the home owner.

The behavior of the Garda in this mater is a disgrace, there no better than the common hooligan you would see on the street!

Why did they raid your house? It should have a specific reason on the search warrant. If you say for nothing, than the story is horse trollop

Don't know what the warrant was for, nobody was home at the time so they entered the house without producing it, they also didn't notify anyone after they left the house, thats the point of the tread! And this is not horse trollop as you put it.

They would have left a copy there.

Contact the ombudsman on 1890600800 and sort it out from there.

Well they didn't, if they had then my mother wouldn't have rang them thinking someone had broken into the house would she? Plus warrant or not its unacceptable the way they carried on!

I will be taken this number down & I'll give it to my mother, its her home so she'll have to make the complaint herself!

Ok, you don't need to be home for them to raid the house, if they ransacked the house, yes it is disgraceful behaviour, I agree, but they didn't raid it for no reason

The first post of call is for her to ring this number and log a complaint of what happened, then they will send a person out to get all the details. This should be done immediately.

Thanks for that info beano! Do you know how long that could take, the door is completely smashed around the handle & she can't lock it, needs to be done in the next day or two?

It is also possible that they entered the wrong address/property, so it is essential that the person contacts the ombudsman for it to be logged and dealt with properly.

Yes, if there's one thing we can be absolutely sure of it's that the guards don't make mistakes or act the bollox.

Yeah, very likely possibility, it could also be a tip off from someone that might have a grudge with the family and got the house raided for no reason. Has happened before

Your absolutely right, they didn't raid the house for no reason but for what ever reason they raided the house for we don't know it yet because they still haven't produce the warrant yet but as soon as they do, I will let you know! As I said in my op, they took my brothers xbox 1 and his guitar so you can probably imagine what the warrant was for, but they are not stolen goods as my mother bought him the xbox for xmas and he has the guitar years.
