So was all set to get a set of Bridgestone Turanza's.

When I got to the tyre centre they had none left, and recomended the Pirelli's.

Anyone use them, any thoughts. Size is 205/55 16.

These were fitted to a new Passat I bought in 2011. Changed the front tyres at 39000kms and the back ones were still on her when I traded in last month with 46k kms. I never got so long from a set of tyres and I replaced the front ones with the same at €165 a pop. Worth paying the extra in my opinion.

What was the performance like? Generally speaking tires that last an eternity are a harder compound, which means that the trade off for longevity is less grip.

I wouldn't drive a car hard but I never had an issue with grip in any weather. Also, these tyres help to improve mpg (don't know why but a relative of mine who works in the tyre business confirmed this).

Had them on a 320bhp 4 wheel drive estate car and found them superb, used them on a track a few times and couldn't fault them.

Can't compare them to anything else however as I only had that car 2 months.

Pirelli P7s are a very good tyre. In terms of longevity, they are average but very good for the amount of grip they offer You can expect 40-50,000 km out of them, as mentioned, if driven normaly and if driven hard, you simply won't get a better performing tyre that doesn't go dangerous in the wet.

If youre after longevity, Id hold out for the Turanza. They grip well, do well in wet, are quite and would be much more efficient than the P7s. You could expect 60+ K out of a minded set too.

I was just looking at Camskill website and they have 4 different P7 in my size but different prices, so what's the deal with that??

They should hopefully serve the next owner well for a while then as well.
