Audiologist said a hearing aid won't help? We're going back to her on monday for a second check just to be 100% of the prognosis but she did the test 3 times the last day so we're fairly sure. My son has no words, only sounds, he's 2. His understanding is great but i wonder how much he's hearing...Like if i say get your shoes he runs to get them but is he hearing words or just sounds.... Hearing seems fine in the second ear. I have been googling and there are devices that can be used for unilateral loss so not sure why she won't refer him for one.

Is the Audiologist a private business or the HSE? Maybe get a 2nd opinion elsewhere? Also, what sort of test was done?

Has the audologist referred you on to an ear nose & throat consultant. I would imagine they would be in a much better position to determine the cause and any options then for treatment.
