Driving lessons question please

I`m not sure if this is the right place but I would like to hear some opinions please.

I have paid for 12 driving lessons for my OH, it cost €300, I don't have an issue with that. The issues that I have with the instructor are:

1 Arranged a lesson and didn't show up.
2 Arranged again for the second time did not show up again, so I got involved and he told me he would look after her.
3 Lesson 1 finally taken at 3rd attempt.

I live in a Village and the driving instructor lives in the larger town 15 minutes away. He has now said that he wants my OH to get over to the larger town as it is taking him too long to drive over to collect her.

He has done a second lesson but he is still pushing for her to get over to the town which will be €13.00 return on the train.

I gave him my address when I paid for the lessons so he knew where we lived all the time

As luck would have it we actually have to go to the town this week, so I told herself to arrange to meet him in the town and now he has changed the time that he has arranged with the OH, when she replied to say she could not make it we got no reply and do not even know if he will turn up and, another thing, he still has not given her the logbook.

    Is this normal?

Seek a refund for the remaining lessons, he is being unreasonable and if he had such conditions on her meeting him he shouldn't have taken your business in the first place or made the terms of business clearer.

Ah that sort of craic isn't on. You shouldn't have paid for all 12 upfront, pay for one first and see what you thought. But sure that's no use to you now, I'd be asking for a refund. There's plenty of instructors out there that are extremely professional, remember you are the employer. They should work and do their best to suit you.

Refund. No doubt about it. What a complete ass.

In answer to your question and as a qualified driving instructor I can confirm, no it's not. Unless otherwise agreed, the instructor is legally obliged to fill out and return the logbook to the student at the end of each lesson. I can't help but wonder, is this guy really an ADI?
From past experiences, (unless I've been going out of my way to do a big discount) I've found the paying customer to be the one making most of the demands. As previously stated, request a refund.

You can check on the RSA website if he's a registered instructor and if he's not you can report him(or report him anyway if he's being deliberately difficult).

Op you should have only paid him per lesson this paying up front is a bad idea even if you get the lessons cheaper.

    One text message.
Please refund me the money paid or the next port of call is the RSA and the small claims court in that order.

I think this is the third thread this week of people paying for driving instructions upfront and having issues after the fact. We should all take note

    Yeah you should.
Pick an instructor that comes highly recommended.

Most of my pupils pay in blocks and I've never had to issue a refund.

The only way to tackle instructors that behave in this way is to complain. Maybe if they have to face up to some consequences they'll get the finger out!
