    Lads,

I'm looking to get a car looked over in the coming days in Cork. Need someone who knows BMW's extremely well as on the face of it the car seems very straight.

    Any suggestions?

    Two choices:
    1. Murphy motor works (MMW) on Monaghan road are good.

    2. I personally bring my car to O'Leary's garage in ballincollig. They are mainly mini specialists but have all the BMW gear and computer stuff (the real deal, not auto logic or other copy).

Small problem in that she's out of tax and the owner doesn't want to bring it to the city as it's not in use and signed off the road. Would they be mobile?

Denis henderson at Marina commercial park.... Very competitive compared to the others named above in my experience.

I used Ardfallen on my bimmers when I had them, after a lot of research. Ask for Ger McNab.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a standard mechanic to go to the car though, most of them want to get it up on a ramp, and rightly so. Ardfallen have a fleet of flatbeds, but I'd say you'd pay through the nose to get it collected.

Perhaps consider the vehicle check services that Motorcheck.ie or the other shower offer? The AA do it too, but they used to be very restrictive in where they'd go, and pricey.

Has to be Ardfallen really. They're known for their love of BMWs, or if they're too busy Brian Powell was who I brought my 325 to when I was buying it and he gave it a thorough going over and that car never went wrong when i had it.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Small problem in that she's out of tax

Pick up the mechanic who will inspect the car and let him drive the car to his garage (and back after)

Even when stopped, he can identify himself (he'll be insured with trade insurance) and he will not be done for tax. This is what I have done a few times, with my car being without tax / insurance / nct

Ask in the main BMW forums here too: bmw-driver.net and bmwhaus.ie

It's an option alright, they might collect it as it would be worth it even to pay them and save me a 3.5 hour round trip to drop them out.

Competitive doesn't necessarily mean "cheap"! Find them excellent value for money and they come recommended highly by a fussy BMW owner.

    :)

    Hi Folks,

I've got a Golf MK7 that was smashed into head-on by a pair of hit and run (on foot) merchants last January.

Basically they had no tax, insurance or NCT, but the attending Guard tracked them down very quickly (they were local to the crash) and were positively idented by myself.

Anyway they were non-Irish and absconded back to Europe before any action could be taken. Not that they would have been able to redress any damages in any case.

Luckily I was able to avail of the MIBI compensation scheme for the 14 grand and three months it took to but my baby back on the road . All of this was done almost perfectly by a combination of Denis Dineen in the Marina in Cork and Lissarda Motors.

The only glitch was they werent able to get the rear view camera working again.

So anyway I heard from a friend that Ger McNab was the 'bee's knees' as far as sorting out problems was concerned.

But when my buddy contacted Ardfallen the other day they said he no longer worked there, and and gone on to another job fixing coffee machines

So tl;dr would anybody know how to get in contact with Ger McNab?
Any PMs to that effect would be a live saver.

    Thanks

Have you got onto Blackwater motors? I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.

EDIT: If it's not oem ignore me!

It's OEM alright. This is the one I ordered.

Blackwater motors fitted the rear view camera perfectly but when they rang VW for the VCDS/Vag-com code to activate the camera, VW wouldn't give it out, saying they don't approve retrofits.

Did loads of googling, but could only turn up a full set of instuctions for the Golf Mk VI.

If anyone here knows or could find out the VCDS code for the camera I'd really appreciate it!

A user called Black_Night fitted one of these recently so should be able to sort you out with the coding.

    Failing that,
There is a Mechanic in Tarrants and as far as I am concerned there in nothing beyond his ability on VAG cars.

Young enough guy? I can also vouch that there's a mechanic there who is top class. Did an interesting engine swap on a vrs lately.
