Car prices from some dealers

They might sell, and might not. Perhaps they'll allow a hefty straight purchase discount?

Prices vary you see, and so does the publics perception of value.

    I recently bought a 2006 BMW 523i
I thought the day would never come!!! They are worth what the cheapest reasonable one is priced at, maybe slightly more if less mileage, better spec or condition. But dealers thinking that a 2005, with half of the mileage of a same year exact same car, is worth double it, is out of their mind. The reg on the car and tax is pretty much the driver of residuals...

ba haaa! LOL at those prices. The first one is a facelift, so worth a bit more, but to be honest, I'm sure I could find 2006 523 on DD for about 6k...

They would want to, although with the prices they have, it wouldn't even encourage a buyer to go and have a look, if they priced realistically they might get more interest, I dunno, do they not keep an eye out on similar cars on the market to see how they are priced and priced their ones accordingly

I know, finally bit the bullet. I like the car :)

The 6 pot engine sounds lovely, very quiet, unlike the diesel cars

I actually saw this yesterday and thought of you... How did you find it on fuel?

Depends on the driving, for my journey to work its not great, but I encounter about 15 sets of traffic lights in 4 miles, so to be expected. On this journey, its about 18 MPG, I knew this would be the case............but would any other car be much better in this scenario. I try and cycle as much as I can as its a short trek anyways.

Out on the motorway at about 120 KPH on a flat straight road, I can get about 40 MPG so thats good for a big 2.5 litre vessel

I know someone who bought an 08 320d there a few weeks ago. He got 2.5k off the sticker price.

Nice aul whack. Must have been severely overpriced. Wonder even with the 2.5 k off sticker price, did he pay too much.

Think it was about 11.5 for an 08 SE with ~60,000 km. I didn't get to involved in whether this was a good deal or not, because I find people don't want to hear my opinion if it doesn't agree with their own.

    Car seemed mint in fairness.

Just wondering if anyone thinks this is a good deal for a 07 520 m sport, its listed at 12,900. I am going to drop out tomorrow and have a look at it.

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/5-Series/520-MSPO/44113938668494130/advert?channel=CARS

is this a decent price for this car, for the mileage and the year etc

    Thanks

i dont think its great really.

    a, its manual
    b, aftermarket bluetooth
    c,cw reg
    d,half leather , not full
    e,scuffed wheels
    f, older 2.0d engine

A 2008 private sale one for a couple of grand more might be better if you can stretch.
if it was 10k then yes but you should find better out there.

Also, that specific company selling that car dont have a very good reputation, You can check them out by goggling their name or search here.

If you do go ahead with them, be sure and get a mechanic to check it out first.

Difference between a dealer and Joe Soap is that a dealer can sit on a car and leave it on the forecourt priced at a higher price than others in the hope that someone might wander in and buy it.

A normal person normally wants the car gone in a reasonable amount of time so can't afford to wait months for it to sell.

So what I'm saying is they can price it for whatever they want until the time comes when they actually want rid and only then will you get what we would consider a 'reasonable' price.

I get ya with the dealer, but the longer its sitting on the forecourt at a high price, the less chance they have of selling it, and its loosing value every week that goes by, would it not be common sense for dealer to price it realistically

Except the 2008+ models all have the dreaded timing chain issue.
I have a 07 with the older engine which is way more reliable and no timing chain issues. I'd upgrade a few years only for that.

Yeah stay away from the N 47 Engine, I personally got stung with the timing chain issue on this engine.

As Blazer says, The M 47 Engine which was out before 2008 is from what I hear more reliable

Or they over paid for it when part exchanging. A car sitting on the forecourt is an asset, a car sold at less than they paid is a loss.
