Outdoor BBQ counter

I am in the process of building an outdoor BBQ counter. It consists of a back wall in block and two end walls. The gas BBQ then spans from one end wall to another. There is a space directly below the BBQ which I intended to put the gas bottle but am wondering is it wise to have it directly below the BBQ itself when in use or should it be outside the counter altogether .

I would put it outside the walls. Underneath would be cool enough as the flame of the bbq itself would draw cold air in from the bottom, but its not worth the risk. The hose is the biggest risk as the gas bottles would be designed to withstand high temps and knocks.
