MHRV - Manifold Location

I'll soon be ordering hollow-core and need to determine where pre-drilled holes are required.

I haven't settled on a HRV supplier\fitter yet but do know from various quotes that I'll be using a manifold ducting system.

I know that every house is different and a proper assessment\plan is required, but for those who have MHRV installed, can you tell me if there is a rule of thumb re. positioning of manifolds?
e.g. are they closer to the unit itself, or positioned centrally in the house?
