Right so you might remember me lads from the coolant problems I have been having with my Toyota 2.2 d4d. Now I have a check engine light on and the TRC OFF but if I keep pressing it it wont turn back on. It just appeared a few second after the engine light. So I was driving and once you put it into first to pull away. You put your foot on the gas. The engine screams like some vtec. And its not going anywhere its just cruising at walking speed but not launching. So I just got back home revved the ****er up and there was black smoke out the pipes. Is my cat needing to be cleaned or something? since I'm hearing these stories with the common rails needing a good blow on the motorway to clean the carbon out? car has been loyal since 2010 nothing but oil and filter changes but now it's breaking on me, If you know something please help. Thanks.

Apart from the engine light, it sounds like your clutch is slipping. Could you describe a bit more?

:)So I added some more coolant, took it round a few blocks. Started it, shut it down. Then repeat and repeat. After that I gave it a few good revs and gave it some pedal to the metal. Lights are off and Toyota is back to being a Toyota. Sorry for the panic lol. I guess I still have that coolant problem. Thanks anyways Cheers. WOW that was a weird one, hope it won't play no tricks on me like that again.

Hmmm, I doubt you'll find that "fix" in any apprentice mechanics textbook!! Roughly translated, I'd say you'll see this problem again.

Hmm black smoke - could be your EGR valve, you could be overfuelling, the turbo hoses/pipes may be leaking.
Black smoke in a TD is usually a sign of one of these.
Regarding the clutch, heres a test - go for a drive, do about 50kph and stick in 4th. Floor it, if the revs climb much faster than the speed then your clutch is on the way out. Could be also a good time to have your DMF replaced if it's worn but it isn't cheap.
From the sounds of your last post I would guess you have done an ECU reset.
This won't cure anything, just tricks the ECU into thinking all is ok.
Bring it to a diagnostics centre and plug it in.
