Is my GPU dying?

Bought a second hand build the other day. Arrived on Monday and have been up all hours trying to sort it since then. Ive posted a number of pictures below. The first one is running on the IGPU. The rest are all on the GPU (r9 290). Ive tried it on two screens now with the same results.

At first I thought installing the AMD drivers would help. Installed them, restarted and fans ramped right up to 100% and id get a black screen.

    Is my GPU dead?

Because the IGPU works OK, and the card has artifacts I would guess the RAM on the card is bad. Something like this happened to me before with a new card, but it did get progressively worse and more distorted than yours over the space of an hour. Because it's a relatively new card I would imagine you can RMA it with the manufacturer. Try another card in the motherboard just to be sure.

EDIT: You could also try DVI, or another HDMI cable. You never know.

Suspect there will be plenty of bitcoin mining graphics cards on ebay soon .... a lot of them will have been running full pelt 24/7 .... I dont know what effect this will have on their long term reliability.

If you download HawaiiInfo from this thread :http://www.overclock.net/t/1445030/is-your-r9-290-unlockable-find-out-here and run it you should be able to see if this card has elpida or hynix memory, elpida being generally less reliable. If it is a reference elpida card chances are it is dying and your best bet is just to RMA it and get a replacement.
