And if you want a license you will only get it by having a wheelchair accessible vehicle at the moment, the regulator wants to bring that figure of 3% of the fleet up a bit more so are only issuing licenses if your car fits the bill

Why would anyone with the tiniest amount of intelligence go into the taxi business?
A blind man can see we have way too many taxis.
Save your money and buy a lotto ticket instead

Presumeably because they want gainful employment and may not have a host of better options available to them right now. There certainly isn't as much money in taxi driving any more but you can still earn a living out of it....all be it a more modest one. Or heaven forbid, they may even wish to partake in taxi driving part time.

Anyone know if is true that the new knowledge tests taxi drivers have to take have failure rates of 80%+ ? Staggered me when I heard it but not sure if it's true

Well the thing is it is extremely impossible to make a living in the taxi business, most are just "existing".
Many many drivers if they could would get out of the business at the drop of a hat

Everyone is well aware of just how "extremely impossible" making money in a taxi is these days.

This guy is a taxi driver.

And so am I, and unless you are

    A. Planning to do it part time (with the backup of a secondary income )
    B. Taking a hiatus from acting or similar.
    C. Have a pension and just need some pin money
    D. Have low outgoings regarding family/ mortgage etc.

I'd say give very careful consideration before spending any money, and then think again, if the answer is still yes then do it and damn the consequences
