Hey folks, I'm looking to get new bike, I've decided on hybrid and have narrowed it down to the TREK 7.4 fx disc (in stock and ready to take home)http://www.trekbikes.com/ie/en/bikes/road/fitness/fx/7_4_fx_disc/

    or the Cube
2014 Cube SL Road Pro http://www.fitzcycles.ie/p/1587/cube-sl-road
not in stock, sould have to be ordered
Only about €180 difference in price.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the brands or pointers on how to make the decision? ;-)

    Thanks
    Gareth.

I bought the Trek FX 7.4 fx disc last year and love it. I commute a short distance every day to work (maybe 6k each way) in dublin city and it's ideal for that. I've also taken it on some longer cycles (up to 60k) and it's been good too.

However, if i'd to do it all over again, i'd probably go with a cheaper hybrid bike, and saved up for a low - mid range road bike too. Either that or a cyclocross bike. Didn't think i'd enjoy the long cycles as much as i did.

I've a 7.5 fx. Not much difference from the 7.4 Disc, except it gains a carbon fibre fork, isn't a triple but loses the disc brakes IIRC. It's a great commuter bike, IMO and I'd be very happy with the 7.4 fx.

I did end up building a road bike too though. Long cycles are fun and for me a straight bar hybrid is no good for them.

Has anyone found a decent carrier/rack to fit onto a Trek 7.4 or 7.5?

    I have this one - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/topeak-super-tourist-rack/rp-prod32819 - on my Trek 7.5FX. It's a good solid rack.

I have an Aldi rack on my wife's Trek 7.4 FX and it's much the same to be honest.

Only thing to watch out for is if your Trek has disc brakes then you can be limited in the racks that fit. Neither my Trek or my wife's have disc brakes.

I've the FX 7.4 with disc brakes and this one from halfords was perfect. It's in a matte black finish so fits in really well with the look of the bike.
