Hi, hope someone can clarify for me. I applied for a job for which I am over-qualified, ie manager applying for supervisor job. I have years of experience for the position advertised. I got a letter telling me I was unsuccessful even though I didnt get called for interview. How can this be?? Many thanks

Confused by what you mean. They looked at your CV and know you're way too qualified as you said. Therefore it's probably a job that would bore you in reality and you'd be likely to leave if something better came along so its better not to waste either party's time. To much experience is as bad as none to be honest. They know that the job is only a stopgap or at least is very likely to be

Happened to me in the past. No big deal. At least you got a letter, most places now don't give one due to the vast amount of applicants

    Any number of reasons.

    - You're overqualified
    - They got an avalanche of CVs and couldn't screen them all
    - They recruited internally
    - There was mistakes in your application
    - They had enough other candidates to interview who more closely matched the spec
    - Your application didn't stand out.

You were unsuccessful at getting to the next stage - the interview part.

being 'over-qualified' generally means one of two things:

1, As said above, the employer thinks you wont stick around for any amount of time. Since you've done more than that.

    or

2, It's used as an excuse. Interviewer just doesnt like the person they interview or they went with someone else or whatever reason.

At the application rejection stage, they generally don't give any feedback, there's just too many candidates.

That's what the good citizens of boards are here for.

You said it yourself, over qualified.

I just `phoned them and asked where I went wrong.....she said I didnt have Level 6 even though it was on my CV and I had to have it for previous work so its not about being overqualified at all !!
