I'm going to Galway for a long weekend but want to be able to go for a run while I'm there (I'd feel uber guilty going 4 days without one!)

Staying in city centre but have a car so can travel out. Actually would prefer to travel out of the city.

    Thanks!

Salthill Promenade is a popular route, scenic and away from cars.

Trail-wise there are a few Coillte forests beside Loch Corrib.

    Newvillage
Derroura, although it's best to stay off the mountain bike trails.

Some nice bog roads out west too if you're interested.

Run up by the river to Dangan. Accessible from anywhere in the city, but with that peaceful nature vibe - best of both worlds.

But hard to beat the prom and South Park if the weather is reasonable.

If the weather is fine I find salthil a pain as there are too many people out walking the area. Best to avoid unless either early or late in the day

What distance are you looking for?

Plenty of routes in and just out of the city.
You can run down the canal at the back of the Roisin Dubh, come out across the road from the University, continue through the grounds and out as far as Dangan sports grounds along the river Corrib, something like this.

Alternatively, there are some lovely quiet roads between Knocknacarra & out past Bearna Golf Club, with some great views over the bay as far as the Burren & even the Aran Islands on a clear day.
Try this route with parking at Cappagh Park.

    Thanks for the replies!

Roughly 5-10k and it would be early morning, before breakfast!!

At the weekend in good weather, for the distance you're looking at, I'd do this, 8.7k lovely & scenic, start & finish @ Bearna Golf Club, though I'd park at the roadside rather than in the GC car park - no idea if they're fussy or not, but golf clubs can be.

I wouldn't do that on a week day ahead of work, cos you're adding the commute traffic from Connemara & Knocknacarra afterwards.
Look for something like the Dangan one I gave you above and tweak it depending on where you're staying.
