HI, I am looking for a good diesel car, fuel economy and low emissions are important as is comfort.

Was thinking around a 1.6 Diesel Saloon

From my research to date Skodas have been mentioned a lot, along with VWs and Toyotas.

Audis A4 has also been mentioned but it would mean buying around 2009 where with the other models mentioned I would be looking at 2010 or 2011

Despite the common misbelief that smaller engines are more fuel efficient, I recently took my Passat CC 2.0 TDi from Limerick to Belfast for some warranty work, they gave me a Golf 1.6 TDi as a loaner. Over both trips up and down my own car was more economical on the journey. So my point is if you are buying a car that is taxed on the co2 system you don't have to limit yourself to the smallest size engine available.

This! the new 516d BMW to be launched sold in Greece only, has worse fuel economy than the 518 and 520d which are both 2L...

Looks like a decent car for the money, 1.9 but only €390 tax for the year and you're better off with a bit more power in a bigger body.
Less stress on the engine means a healthier life and better MPG.
