I'm currently using Kin mouthwash as I'm getting some treatment and to clear some gum disease. I know its not recommended for long term, everyday use. Which ones are? I know of Cordosyl, is that any good?

Corsodyl will stain your teeth with long term use. I don't think it's necessary to use a mouth wash daily if you brush regularly and correctly, but I'm open to correction! :)

Using mouthwashes containing alcohol are no longer recommended.

I don't use any mouthwash anymore and I've got advanced gum disease. I used kin at the start but now just floss daily and brush. I go to my hygienist 4 times a year and a periodontist 3 times and my gums are fine. If I noticed any unexplained bleeding (not temporarily from a new brush for instance) I'd use it for a couple of weeks.

Mouthwash does very little in the absence of proper mechanical plaque removal (brushing and flossing). Corsydol and other chlorohexidine containing mouthwashes are effective against some bacteria in the short term however prolonged use is not advisable as it stains and also the bacteria become resistant pretty quickly.

I reccomend to my patients to concentrate on mechanical plaque control, and if you want to use mouthwash use a non alochol rinse generally the cheapest one you can get. Its really just minty water.
