    Hi everyone,

So my brother is planning a visit at some point in the summer; As he has a 2 years old son, I guess I'll be very much in need to get some sort of diabolical contraption for the little one to sit in the car.

Extrema ratio, they'll have to bring their own car seat but what are the options if I wished to get one for a few days? Short of asking some colleagues around the office if they have an old one their kids don't use anymore, is there any way to rent one?

    Thanks!

Pick up a cheap second hand one on Adverts.ie
use it and keep it up for future use :)
    or
Use it and sell it again on Adverts.ie

Or there are quite good bargains to be had on some of the lesser named seats in Argos or Halfords.

Just remember to double check the approx weight of the child as the seats are now based on weight rather than ages.

    Quick Google found http://www.thestorkexchange.ie/shop/forwardfacingtoddlerseat/

    €25 for a week, €30 for 2 weeks. Not a terrible price.

If you may have a use in the future, and have room to store one, you can pick up a decent looking one for around €60 - http://www.toys.ie/Dimples-Comfort-Car-Seat-Group-123-Red-Black-!131386-prd.aspx

Thought about the "get-cheap-eBay-one-resell-after" way indeed...took a stroll in Halfords a few days ago and the prices on the items on display were eye-watering, although I'm sure there'd be something slightly less expensive if one looks properly.

As for the weight, that's a good point indeed - the little guy seems to have taken after daddy & uncle being quite on the massive side for his age. Mommy being 5'9" doesn't help either!

Great find, thanks - looks like I didn't have the correct search, as I always ended up on advert sites and useless stuff.

Thanks both guys, I know it's something that can be found out with proper searching but, having no idea where to look for, it helps having a "human opinion" thrown at you. We're a little too reliant on Google these days :/

If hes a big 2 year old he should be fine in the 2nd stage seat...they can be got in smyths toystore for 30€..or a bit more €€ if they have spiderman etc on em.

They usually have a non branded version of these for ~30€

I wouldn't put my 2 year old in to one of those seats. No inbuilt straps so just relying on the seatbelt to hold them in.

At that age, you need them firmly strapped in. Last time he was in my car, the little fecker opened the door while I was driving. Forgot to put the child locks on as the kids are rarely in my car - had to pull in, put the child lock on and close the door.

Imagine what sort of mayhem he could cause if he wasn't even firmly strapped in.

OP, a group 1 carseat is what you need

doubt you can get a (new) one cheaper than this

I had a similar issue. We travel to Ireland once or twice a year, and need a car seat while over. Thought The Stork Exchange was a bit pricey for a week or two, considering multiple kids have probably puked, peed, crapped, spilled drinks, etc in the seats in the past. Buying second hand on Adverts.ie was the same price, could be used for multiple visits (when left in Ireland), and probably only one or two kids have puked, peed, crapped, spilled drinks, etc in it. :)
