Hi. Was wondering would anyone know of any cheap public transport ways to get from Bristol Airport to either Bristol city or Bath ? I know there is the Airport Flyer bus but its pretty expensive and I'm hoping to find a local bus that would be a bit cheaper and I would be able to walk from the airport to a bus stop outside the airport to get one. (Going on a day trip so won't have any luggage).

Would be very grateful for any suggestions from anyone that knows Bristol airport and how to get to / from it.

    Thanks

You could get this one to Bristol- http://www.buzzbus.co.uk/routes/121-bus-timetable.pdf £5.90 at most for a day ticket, though it only has a limited service.

There is a direct bus to Bath but its £20 return

You could get the 121 but its not that frequent and first bus fares are usually really expensive.

If you only have a day in Bristol then just get on the flyer and you will be directly in town. Its £11 return, is frequent and drops you right in town and then then back at the door of the airport.

If you want to go to Bath then get off the Flyer at Temple Meads station and hop on a train although for a day trip I would personally stay in Bristol.

+1 I did both with a group last year, I'd definitely recommend Bristol over Bath for a day trip. Get the ferry from outside Temple Meads railway station which will take you along the Avon river to the SS Great Britain where there is a decent little cafeteria. Then walk to the Clifton Suspension Bridge and take a look, there a a very steep path from the side of the road up to the bridge, you need to be pretty fit but there is a wooden bench midway up which allows you to catch your breath, great views of the Avon gorge from the bridge.

Bath is a heritage town, it's nice to walk around at leisure but it's not really suitable for a day trip, you need a couple of days at least to savour the atmosphere and visit a lot of the little shops. You won't get the feel of Bath unless you can spend at least one evening walking around, it feels different in the evenings when a lot of the restaurants open up and the offices workers clear out.

Just £6 for a day ticket for the 121 if the site is correct.

If you wanted to do both, it would be possible. There are loads of trains running between Bath and Bristol all day - about four every hour in each direction and the journey time is between 15 and 20 minutes. The main railway stations are called Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads.
