Muscles in my thighs?

    Hey all,
I'm training realy hard for this half marathon in a few weeks and instead of getting shredded and marathon-runner-built, my ass and my tighs seem to be getting bigger! Are they muscles building underneath the fat?
I can see my calves are like rocks, so definitely some muscle gain there.
Am I at some awkward stage when the muscles are built but the fat isn't being burnt yet? Will this pass?!

PS. I was never a couch potato nor I am overweight. I'm a healthy size 10-12 and just to cover everything -I haven't started stuffing myself because I do more running. Healthy eating with no crap on a daily basis.

Basically there are two types of training:
Shorter, powerful exercises = bigger muscles, like Jamaican female sprinters.
Long, endurance exercises= lean muscles, think Paula Radcliffe or Sonia.

What does your week of training consist of ?

When you say training really hard, how does a typical training week look?

You will certainly see muscle hypertrophy during training and often this will not be as defined as you might thing.

Also when you say healthy eating what exactly does the typical diet look like? I know from personal experience that you can eat health and still have a relatively high body fat % (in the context of fit active people) which means your muscles will have less definition. I trained for years at a relatively low weight and it was only through very subtle changes in diet did my body composition change despite the training (volume and intensities change) and similarly I know plenty of elite sprinters who have seen similar changes.

Before you make the changes however you need to ask yourself what is the goal at the end of the training, is it how yourlook or running as fast as you can for the HM because the two can be very seperate in alot of cases, there are plenty of people who would not have an ideal body fat % (both slightly over weight or the "skinny fat" look who can run lightning fast times)
