The head gasket is going on my astra 1.4 petrol. I am just wondering am I better to get the head gasket replaced or source a second hand engine?
    Thanks.

What mileage is on it? This happened my astra also at the 80K miles mark and apparently its a common issue with these engines, if its the same issue, its not just the head gasket, the head will also have to be skimmed.
If you do it yourself you should be able to get it all done for under €200 if your giving it to a garage I reckon it could cost >€300. If it is the same issue there is a risk that the replacement engine might have the same defect.

100% replace the head gasket. You don't know what your getting with a second hand engine.
