More than likely, the life expectancy of your desktop/laptop won't last as long as the lifetime of Windows 7. Only upgrade if you like Windows 8. I personally hate it lol.

I wasn't a fan originally at all but I was able to put up with it when I installed Start 8 and disabled all the Metro/Modern stuff entirely.

I recently bought a DELL XPS 12 convertible though and there it makes a lot more sense when I use it in tablet mode, but again, thanks to Start 8 and now the changes in today's 8.1 Update 1 release I can totally ignore that aspect of the OS when I'm on the desktop so it actually is the best of both worlds.

I have an Dell XPS L702x laptop "non touch screen"as I reply to this forum I am 50/50 whether to upgrade or not,I will make my mine up in the next week, the bottom line here is that I really do like Windows 7 and have a fairly good knowledge of the system, but I am told that Windows 8 is a really smooth operating system, and I also noted in the above link the following "The company "Windows" did note, however, that users are required to update before May in order to continue to receive patches and updates"any opinions on this statement.
