I have been looking at cars for the last number of weeks and tbh I'm not having much luck.
I was looking at Yaris and Corolla initially but haven't been lucky.
They would have been my first choice but I reckon I'm going to have to widen my "pool" so to speak.
I have max 5k and it has to be diesel/1.4 or under/5 dr.
Reliable is a major thing too.

Any advice from you guys on here as to what other car makes I could look into would be really appreciated as I know you all know your stuff :)

    Thanks

How much annual mileage are you doing?

Your choice will be very limited looking for a diesel in 1.4 litre or less and as you have found out finding a tidy straight one for €5k is a challenge.

I'm doing about 30-35k per year.

    It sure is :(
Looked at yet another today the was "spotless and mint condition".
It had also met with an accident recently(not that he said anything but well, you know bits hanging off it and tears down the side of it is usually a bit of a giveaway) :(
I cant fathom how the seller thought I wouldn't notice and waste my time driving an hour+ away to view it(he must be hoping for Stevie Wonder to be in the market for a small diesel :D)

At this mileage, tax will be only a small portion of your outgoings. Consider a bigger engine if possible.

The bigger engine isn't possible insurance wise unfortunately.

Would not fancy doing 30k to 35k per year in a Yaris or similar sized cars to be honest, from a comfort level. You will be shattered every time you get out of the car, they are not designed for long commutes/driving.

I'd seriously consider opting for a car with a slightly bigger engine, something like this though the garage doesn't get the best reviews around here:

To be fair, I didn't fancy the idea of it myself :o
But heard they were very reliable etc(and thats more important atm).
Dont know much about the ceed's apart from them being Korean.
And its a bit over budget :(

I'd say you will buy that close to the top of your budget, you just need to haggle hard.

What would the fuel economy be like with them?
Nicer looking than a Yaris by a country mile:)

They are pretty good on fuel and a lot more refined, roomy and comfortable than a Yaris.
