Sky in Spain

Hi there, I am in a relatives Villa in Spain for a few weeks and am trying to figure out the problem with his Sky TV.
Last year he had this working perfectly albeit with an English box and presumably an English card in it. That is BBC 1 on 101 etc.,
Now this year he has the message no satellite connection unplug box etc., Yet Sky News and a few of the free to air are working but nothing on the BBC or ITV so I am presuming that card is no longer registered.
Would I be right in saying that I would have to have a card that is registered in England or else I would get nothing on the English channels.
Also I can try to get an Irish registered card but need to know if that would work out there..
    Thanks Hugh

BBC & ITV are transmitted on a UK spot beam, Sky transmits on a pan-European beam. Astra retired the old satellites and moved to newer ones last month. The UK-spot beam on the new satellites are more tightly focused, making the signal harder to pick up outside its intended footprint. Depending on where your mate is located, it may not even be possible to pick up the UK spot beam. And if they are they will probably need a very large dish.

Okay, I understand that, and thanks for reply.
In Marbella area and I can see lots of sales vans advertising Sky installation services so I might try one of those.

BSkyB will not knowingly sell a subscription to Spain, so discussing this is against the charter as it is effectively discussing how to bypass regional restrictions..
