Canelo claims on his Instagram to have offered Lara the fight for July 12th. Lara's been campaigning hard for this fight, but if he takes it he's only got a two month turnaround from his May 2nd bout with Ishe Smith. I hope he goes for it. He may not get the chance again.

I'd say Lara will do the business to be honest.

Oscar just confirmed that this is happening via Twitter.

I would go with Canelo, but Lara has enough skills to win the fight. Interesting fight, anyway.

Fair play to Alvarez for requesting this fight. He wants to fight the best, unlike a lot of other fighters who just fight whoever their promoters choose. The thing is though Alvarez should have been fighting the likes of angulo and lara before he fought money, not after

In terms of building up experience first, I'd definitely agree with you there. Unfortunately he may have felt that it was a potential 'now or never' situation in relation to the Mayweather fight. The belief was that the pressure was on Mayweather to fight a marquee opponent after Guerrero and when Mayweather says 'jump' everyone else says 'how high'. Once the fight was put to Canelo he couldn't turn it down as the offer might not come again. It was a guaranteed pay day and probably as good a chance as he felt he would get for the matchup as he might not have been able to get down (as near) to the required weight in a year or mores time. Maybe he did feel he had a genuine chance of winning too.

This is a good matchup and good to see a genuine willingness by both fighters to take it on. With Lara's style Canelo could have some of the same difficulties he had against Mayweather. But Angulo gave Lara a tough time, which makes me think that Canelo can dominate him as he is a big unit and far more accomplished than Angulo.

Oh of course he couldn't turn down Mayweather, no fighter in their right mind would. It is THE fight in boxing. Just that I think Golden Boy protected him too much, and he paid the price. I think now he is getting the right type of progessive match ups. Also Mayweather probably wanted to fight Canelo as early as possible so he would still be that bit inexperienced

I feel Lara will be too slick for Canelo. I know Angulo gave him a good fight but I also think that Angulo wasn't firing on all cylinders the night he fought Canelo. He wasn't letting his hands go for most of the fight, that coupled with an excellent performance by Canelo.

Lara v Canelo is a very intriguing encounter, I can't wait!

Lara will have to comprehensively outbox him to get the decision though

In a way I hope Lara wins cuz maybe then a Floyd fight is possible and he's a guy that could actually cause Floyd some problems but I think this could be a Canelo TKO easily...good fight though, glad Canelo isn't ducking

I don't know if that will even do it to be honest. At least it's not in Texas.
