Help me with Gel Shorts

    Hi,

I am in the middle of my training for the Ring of Kerry but as mentioned in previous posts, I have the build of a climber per say (skinny/light) and because of my build I don't have alot of natural padding. I need to get some good shorts to help with the pain.

Can anyone recommend a good pair? Are there any decent Gel shorts that would fit the bill?

I use Wiggle's DHB brand and they suit nicely. Not too expensive either.

Which dhb range do you use? Race are the most expensive I think

Altura ProGel bib shorts are excellent and have a very good pad.

I have recently been using the DHB pro short and will use these when I ride the ROK, I find them great! Zero chaffing, its not a chesterfield sofa but the padding is comfy on long rides. Not the cheapest but I am happy I made the investement.

Is there any particular reason why you're wedded to gel shorts? The vast majority of shorts on the market, including those well regarded for comfort, have a foam-based chamois.

The reason why I want to try gel shorts is because I have no natural padding at all, and I find the normal foam based chamois don't provide enough padding. I have 2 pairs of foam based shorts but I am still getting to much pain.

    Maybe the wrong saddle?

I have "no natural padding" at all either. Foam chamois works well for me, but it takes a while for your arse to build up to dealing with longer distances in the saddle. Saddle choice is also key, but only you can chose the saddle that fits you. It takes time and maybe a few different choices to get it right.

I like the Santini slice gel bib shorts for a long day out.

The cheaper ones. Can't remember in shorts but the roubaix 3/4 tights for winter...

I'm seriously considering a pair of these. I've looked up lots of reviews and they're generally well though of and at €45 I think they could be worth a gamble.

I have two pairs of more expensive shorts €110+ which are very disappointing. The two best shorts I own are an old pair of Northwave worn away to nothing and a pair of tri shorts which cost about €35, just a pity they're not bibs.
