    Hi there,

Just wondering whether anyone else has had a problem with Three Ireland unlocking their handset.

They sent me an unlock code for my handset, but it didn't work. They then sent me a replacement that was meant to be unlocked, but it wasnts. So they sent me another unlocking code for the second handset which again didnt work.

It seems strange that they can't unlock the phone, given that I purchased it from them.

Anyone had a similar experience ?

    Thanks

I've seen it happen with other networks. Typically the manufacturer of the phones have the unlocking codes and pass them on to the network when requested.

I know O2 and Vodafone can take the phone from you and send it to some company that will manually unlock the phone for you.

The alternative is that you request the unlock code online, what type of phone is it?

This really isn't a Consumer Issue. I see two options

    (1) Move to the Talk to Three forum, to see if the reps there can help
    (2) Move to a suitable Mobiles forum (depending on phone type).

OP - let me know which option you'd prefer

Oh I've been on the Three forum. I've been PM'ing them for the last six weeks over this.

    (1) They are slow as f***
    (2) They don't seem to have any idea of how to help me.

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, so feel free to move it.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply Sonic2k.

Its a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. I took it to one of those unlocking shop (the original handset), but they said they couldn't unlock it. I assume they try to get the unlock code online.

You may be better off contacting Samsung directly if that's the case. They have a few support lines in Ireland so I'm sure if you contact a customer care dept and explain it all they may sort it out, just keep the codes already provided at hand and let them know they didn't work.

It never crossed my mind to contact Samsung directly- Cheers for the advice !!

OP, what method did you use to activate the unlock code?

They gave me the following instructions.

Insert an non Three SIM into the phone and turn on.

The phone will ask you to enter an unlock code.

Enter the unlock code issued by Three and press unlock.

Once I did all of this the phone displayed a message saying 'Phone network unlocking unsuccessful'.......or something along those lines.

Same thing happened with the second handset.
