staff /child ratios ignored?

Hi folks,

Our childcare arrangements have fallen through at short notice so we are urgently seeking a creche In NCD.

Went to see two places today. Both supposedly the best in the area. And both had their cons. But both totally blew away the supposed child/carer ratios on the HSE website.

Is this just common practise? The place we had before moving here were so contentious about this. But both crèches mumbled something about staff being off/getting more staff etc.

And whilst one creche is on the less expensive end of the scale (relatively), the other is top top dollar.

Gonna say it to them again tomorrow but wanna know am I being unrealistic here?

No you are not being unrealistic. The ratios are legal requirements and there should be cover in place for emergencies. If they're shoddy about that in an upfront way what else are they sloppy about?

Where abouts in NCD are you looking? I know of a few places there, good and bad.

Sorry don't know that area. There's usually loads of info on sites like rollercoaster though. I wouldn't settle for places like the ones you've seen though.

Check pobal maps to have a look at their HSE reports also.

There are no excuses for being over the required legal ratio,unless for literally a few seconds.
What ratios were you seeing?
Personally i would be extremely unhappy and would not entertain any creche that openly breaks the law.
