What will Denis acquire next I wonder?
Businessman Denis O' Brien is taking over the 214-bed Beacon Private Hospital in Sandyford in Dublin from next Monday.

The move comes as US-based hospital operator UPMC Ireland said it is selling the clinic and relinquishing all management responsibilities at the private hospital in south Dublin.

Ulster Bank has sold loans linked to the Beacon to Mr O’Brien, UPMC said. Mr O’Brien will now use the deal to take control of the hospital.

“The new debt owner will not restructure the debt and clearly indicated his intent to own, control and manage Beacon Hospital,” UPMC said. “Without a restructuring, UPMC Ireland must agree to the demands and sent notice to representatives of the debt owner that it will agree to sell its ownership for a nominal value and relinquish management responsibilities for the hospital in addition to ceasing all affiliation whatsoever with the facility.”

It makes me wonder about private health in this country tbh. First Mount Carmel, then the Beacon, surely a sign people can't really afford the fees?

I think we should just hand the country over to him and be done with it tbh.

    He bought a whole hospital?

I can only afford Lidl plasters and "paracetamol" that taste like chewing gum. I need to use some elbow grease, knuckle down, sort my life out and rob rich people!

It's a private hospital, someone has to own it and I can't afford it.

I know a member of the staff very well, they're worried what changes will be made to the place. Job security etc.

Unfortunately for the staff, change is obviously needed.

Trapattoni will be made chief surgeon, but he will only be funded to complete 50% of any given operation

Well, the first thing he'll do is try to get the debt written down:rolleyes:

He owns the debt, he would be the one who has to write it down.

I dont know how the upcoming health care for all is being set up but I have a feeling the state will move alot of the action into private sector hands. Probably loads of low grade private hospitals pulling in money all sides from the taxpayer. O Brien probably positioning himself to get into that business.

Surely your not implying that Denis might be in for a wind fall from he's friends in Government!

That kind of thing doesn't happen in Irish politics!

Always wondered that about Irishmen, can they be in a global consortium that has a controlling interest in everything we the people do but is not the catholic church, I think not.

Sounds like ole Denis is getting his ducks in a row for the forthcoming privatisation of the healthcare system.
    Clever, clever boy.

Some people's are. Apparently the place is overridden with management though. Too many chiefs etc.

I've told them this too, and explained OBrien didn't buy the place to let it fail.

I think they're more worried about pay and conditions being changes, contracts rewritten etc.

No, tis bugs. Drink bugs, get trots, get trots, go to hospital..twas a bleak analogy. And utterly unrelated to Denis, who is not a bugs peddler.

Slightly off topic, but I'd love to see a cage fight between Denis O'Brien and Micheal O'Leary

I was in the clinic bit of it recently, I got the impression that a lot of the units were empty? Or am I remembering wrong?

Ah, I read it wrong:(. In that case I expect he'll hike up all prices possible and cut wages where he can as well.

Michael Lowry will probably be awared the refrigeration contract the next time it's up for renewal.
Even if his tender is openly acknowledged not to be the most competitive.
