    Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of advice, a friend of mine is selling his holiday home in Spain and wants to bring home some of his belongings from the home, were trying to work out what the best method for this is, and we're exploring the idea of renting a van here in Ireland and driving to Malaga to his home, loading up and driving back

The problem is, were not sure if any Irish rental company will do this for him, has any boardsie done something similar

 There is nothing shady about this I swear:rolleyes:

It might come easier and cheaper to rent van in Spain. Load it, drive it to Ireland and back there.

I dont see how it would be cheaper to fly to Spain, drive to Ireland and back and then have to fly home?

This subject was few times around, and there doesn't seem to be many Irish van rental companies happy to rent a van to drive abroad.
If you can find one, it will probably cost extra.
Also most van rental places don't provide insurance, so you have to arrange it yourself - again extra cost.

In Spain those problems won't exist, as ability to use vehicle abroad when renting anywhere on the Continent is pretty standard.
Also normally all rental vehicles come with insurance.
Flights to Spain and back is rather negligible cost comparing to cost of van rental, fuel and ferries.

You could buy a cheap van, use it for the job and sell it again when you get back?
Might seem like more money up font but you get your money back when you get home.

And that could be probably the cheapest option.
    Buy a cheap van.
    Buy insurance for it.
    Drive there and back.
Cancel insurance within 14 days (so only proportional premium will be paid).
And sell the van for the same money you bought it (or higher) ;)
