Testing thermal insulation

    Hey guys,
I'm doing some research into using ash as an thermal insulation and looking for some help, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Im unsure about how to test the qualities that the mixture has; I recently tested a styrofoam cup covered in the insulation and a normal styrofoam cup (repeatedx3) . This showed the use of ash as a thermal insulator was successful and definitely did work.
Are there any other ways that I could test it as an insulator, without having a huge bulk of insulation?
    Thanks in advance :)
