How to deal with Agencies?

Recently graduated and i was wondering about IT recruitment agencies. Firstly when they ask whom you applied to and whom has interviewed you, are they simply looking for leads or genuinely interested in how you did? I'm beginning to wonder if that's all they all ring about half the time. So should i bother to even tell them whom was interested in me? On one call i simply said another agency put me forward for an interview. Also i never get feedback even when i do an interview?!

I'v had similar experiences, usually agencies ring up and say they will put your CV forward and let you know any feedback but then they don't (also trying to get in touch with them again seems non-existant).

For me in this case, a month later another recruitment agency will rang me up about the same job the other recruitment agency rang me about a month prior, said it was unprofessional of them, and put my CV forward with promise of feedback. Didn't hear from them again and tried to get in touch (again became non-existant).

Id say your best bet is to try out a few of them and find an agency that suits your needs and seems genuine and stick with them. I'v had bad experiences and had good experiences where some agencies had the common decency to keep me up to date on my applications.

    ok,

From my experience with agencies they work like this

you send in a cv...if its something thats anyway sellable they bring you in and talk with you to see what you are looking for. This way they get an idea of what you want, what you seem like (ie are you crazy person that could damage their relationship with an employer or a normal person that could actually get the job), what salary you are looking for and also to find out what other roles you have applied for with other agents. Reason for this is that they wont get any commission if they send your cv forward to a company if they arent the first agent to 'introduce' you to the company (it may even damage your chances are companies may have had issues with agents arguing over fees on candidates in the past)

Usually you wont hear from the agent again until a role comes up that they can sell you for.

My advise is to keep applying for roles that come up that you are interested in and chase agents for repsonses (phone them as its easier for the agent to ignore you if you just email)

If you dont get feedback after doing an interview, well thats just an appalling agent..try to contact the company you interviewed with then (tell them the agent hasnt provided you with any feedback)

    good luck...tis tough out there:(
