I remember enquiring about a house that had been on the market for six months and hadn't sold. I was told that there was an offer on it. I put in my bid, and I was told that 'the underbidder' had put in an increased offer.

I'm not sure whether they expected me to believe that a previous bidder had made an offer on the house and then sat on his ass for six months, waiting for me to come along and bid against him. I'm not sure if they cared what I thought.

It was a classic 'phantom bidder' scenario.

I withdrew my bid. The property didn't sell. That told me what I needed to know.
    Failed to load the poll.
